Quick Stop in Genoa

In route to Venice, our first stop was in Genoa. This city isn’t the most well-known, with Rome, Florence, and Venice overshadowing. Even though we only were in town for one night, it seemed to be a very laid back, fun city. Not a super large city, Genoa is still a large port.

We walked around the Porto Antico(Old Port) area, which was a beautiful part of the city and relaxing to stroll through. After dinner, we walked down to the Piazza de Ferrari, which is the main square of the city. Although there wasn’t too much going on, the lively scene was at nearby Piazza de Erbe. The little square was lined with bars and filled with outdoor seating. There atmosphere was laid back and easy going, as there were many young people out having a drink and socializing at the tables. We decided to take a seat right in the middle, and wind down the night(after 9 hours of train travel) with a crisp glass of prosecco.

This prosecco was so good, as it was not too sweet or not to bitter, as some champagnes can be. This cold, slightly fruity Italian specialty couldn’t have tasted better on a warm night’s end.

Being in Italy, I naturally had to drink a cappuccino in the morning. Luckily, we had an hour to burn before the train left and there was a café right across the street from the hotel. The cappuccino was one of the best I’ve had. The milk was frothed such a silky smooth foam and the espresso was full of rich coffee flavor. For a connection city to Venice, Genoa turned out to be a pleasurable experience.
